M-STEP

This spring, students in grades 3 through 8 and in grade 11 will take part in the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). Students in grades 9 and 10 will be participating in the PSAT test.

The table below lists the specific subjects tested and testing dates for each grade level. Please note that although the test is untimed, most students will spend less than two hours testing each day. When not testing, students will receive instruction from their classroom teachers.

If possible, please do not take students from school on the primary testing days. It is also critical that students get plenty of sleep before testing, arrive at school on time, and eat a healthy breakfast.

Students will not be testing on each day that is listed. Please check with the school office for testing schedules for specific classrooms.

The M-STEP is a curriculum-based exam and the best preparation for students is to attend school regularly and complete classwork and homework to the best of their abilities. Although teachers will spend some time familiarizing students with the item types and test format, we believe teaching our curriculum is the primary method to ensure student success.

Additional information on the M-STEP is available on the MDE website using the links below.
