Kindergarten Enrollment:

Your child must be 5 years old by December 1 of the enrollment year.

The State of Michigan also requires all students entering kindergarten to have the following:

•Original birth certificate

•Proof of current hearing and vision screening—the District will accept hearing and vision screening tests taken for PEEP or Head Start

Proof of immunizations (Follow link or scroll to see required immunizations listed below.) These are required by the State of Michigan for students entering kindergarten. Children born in Michigan from 1994 to present are in the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). Click here to see a list of local immunization clinics.

General Enrollment:

Residents of the Kalamazoo Public Schools district can enroll their students throughout the year using the forms attached below. The Temporary Placement forms are only for students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). We also require photocopies of the following:
- Student's original birth certificate
- Proof of immunizations (Follow link or scroll to see required immunizations listed below.)
- Proof of residence (voter registration card, purchase or rental agreement, utility bill, property tax bill, driver's license)
-The most-recent report card and current schedule, if incoming student is in high school

Transfer from one KPS school to another KPS school by returning the "Request to Transfer" form to Student Services. (PDF below).

Non-district residents living within one of the nine school districts in Kalamazoo County need to request a release from their school district. If approved, that release is then subject to the KPS review process. To request release from KPS, call Student Services for instructions.

Non-district residents living in a county adjacent to Kalamazoo County can apply for enrollment through the Schools of Choice program (link). For information about this option, please call Student Services.

Transfer of student records: Michigan law requires a public school to request a copy of a transferring student’s school record from his or her previous school within 14 days after enrolling the transfer student. The sending school must forward a copy within 30 days of the request [MCL 380.1135(4)].
