The Annual Education Report (AER) provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress of the Kalamazoo Public Schools district (KPS) as required by federal (No Child Left Behind Act) and state (P.A. 25) laws. The AER is attached as a pdf for you to review here, and paper copies are available in the main office.
The State of Michigan provides a guide to reading and understanding district and school report cards here. District staff are also available to help you understand the information contained in this report. Please contact lesuercj [at] kalamazoo [dot] k12 [dot] mi [dot] us (subject: 2010-2011%20Annual%20Report) (Craig LeSuer) if you need assistance.
For 2010-2011, Milwood Magnet School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) because we did not meet the 90% attendance rate goal. Because our school has not made AYP for four years, we are identified for corrective action.
We will work with professional consultation, both from within district and outside the district to audit our practices and make sure that our school improvement plan aligns strategically with research on best practice instruction and that our curriculum aligns to state standards.
We will implement strategic imtervention classes this years for students who are below grade level in reading and math.
We have lengthened our class periods to provide more time in core area subjects.
We have added an attendance interventionist to support and improve the school attendance of our students.
We will continue to offer additional support to students through extended day programming and see that tutoring support is available to any student in need of assistance.
We will encourage parents to work collaboratively with us, using online resources to monitor their student’s progress, reinforcing student effort and motivation.
The report also contains the following information:
- Process for assigning pupils to the school
- Status of the 3-5 year school improvement plan
- A brief description of each specialized school
- How to access a copy of the core curriculum, a description of its implementation and an explanation of the variances from the state's model
- Aggregate student achievement results for any local competency tests or nationally normed achievement tests
- The number and percent of students represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences.
