KC Student Named National Merit Finalist
Rachel Lanting Moves on in National Competition
Congratulations to senior Rachel Mei Lanting for moving on in the National Merit Scholarship competition and being named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Lanting was named a semifinalist in the fall of 2018.
Lanting attends Kalamazoo Central High School and the Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center. She is a member of the KC National Honor Society and is a board member for the organization Students for Gun Legislation.
Lanting is also an accomplished pianist and oboist. She won third place at the 2018 IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Competition and was a state semifinalist in the Michigan Music Teachers Association competition in 2016, 2017, and 2018. She was also a finalist for the Bravo! Music competition in 2018. She performed with the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra and the KJSO Ensemble Program from 2015 to 2018.
The National Merit Scholarship Competition honors academically talented high school students, who are named to the semifinalist ranks when they earn a PSAT score in the top 1.25 percent of all test results. Her parents are Steven and Ashley Lanting.
