KC FCCLA Brings Home Medals

Team Wins Honors for Eighth Year

For the eighth consecutive year, Kalamazoo Central FCCLA team members qualified for the national Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America competition in Anaheim, California. The team brought home six medals.

FCCLA is a national career and technical student organization for students interested in family and consumer sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. It offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for students to pursue careers that support families, including topics such as parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, sustainability, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career preparation.

This year’s winning team members were, from left: senior Jay’Kree Jackson, gold medal, Sports Nutrition, senior category; junior Kavia Couvillion, gold medal, Sports Nutrition, se nior category; sophomore Diedra Smith, silver medal, Nutrition & Wellness, junior category; 2019 graduate Lauren Zach, silver medal, Chapter Service Project Portfolio, senior category; 2019 graduate Gabrielle Wark, silver medal, Chapter Service Project Portfolio, senior category; and sophomore Yasmine Diaz, bronze medal, Nutrition & Wellness, junior category. The team is advised by teacher Lisa Boulding.
