ARE YOU READY TO GRADUATE?
Make sure you have everything you need on the Class of 2018 Senior Checklist
ANNOUNCEMENTS FAFSA Help: There are several opportunities to get free assistance filling out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid. There will be a "Seniors adn Parent Meeting" in the auditorium on 10/4 before the Promise presentation. Represenatives from Western and KVCC will be available to answer questions.
Athletes: Student athletes who hope to play in college need to register with NCAA at www.ncaaeligibilitycenter.org. If you qualify for free/reduced lunch you can receive a fee waiver from your counselor.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: If you qualify for free/reduced lunch then you also qualify for application fee waivers. Email your counselor once you finish an online application and she will contact the college about the fee waiver.
University of Michigan and Kalamazoo College use the Common Application. Insert your counselor's email address and other contact info into your application and then she will be able to upload your transcript and your recommendation. Turn in a Senior Profile to your counselor. This is required if you need a letter of recommendation. Remember that counselors and teachers should be given at least two weeks notice to complete your recommendation. Colleges usually will not review your application until all parts are submitted including the recommendations. Plan ahead!
TRANSCRIPTS When applying to college, you should submit all transcript requests online through your counselor. The website for transcript requests is exchange.parchment.com. In addition to requesting a self-view transcript from your high school you must request your transcript to be delivered to each college to which you are applying and scholarship programs/NCAA if applicable. If your college (such as U of M and K) uses the Common Application then you do not need to use parchment.com for a transcript request.
TEST SCORES When you register to take the ACT or SAT you should have your scores sent directly to your colleges of interest. Most colleges in Michigan will accept the SAT scores that appears on your high school transcript. U of Michigan, MSU and the NCAA require that you have your SAT scores sent directly from the testing agency. (www.collegeboard.org)
