It is our mission to help our students become successful and to assist them in reaching their potential.  Building relationships with our students/families and maintaining sound two-way communication between the home and school are vital to this endeavor.  It is also essential that our parents have easy access to all information that the school offers so that they can make informed educational decisions with their children.

Here you will find essential information for parents and students for the school year.  From this site you will be able to access staff emails, special announcements, guidance information, athletic schedules, and more.  It is my desire to have a safe and productive year where the Kalamazoo Central High School Community works together to achieve greatness.

Here’s your Black History announcement for today: GLADYS WEST was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was a mathematician, who for 42 years worked with a team of engineers that developed the Geographical Positioning System or GPS.

Those of you interested in EFE and EFA classes or the Early/Middle College Programs, there will be an open house tonight where you can explore the options and talk with the teachers to find out which class or program might be the best fit for you. Again the EFE/EFA Open House and Early/Middle College programs are tonight at the Air Zoo on Portage Rd. south of the Kalamazoo Airport from 5:30 until 7:30.

  1. tonight is a FAFSA night at KVCC’s financial aid office. You do not need to be attending KVCC in order to participate! Stop by the Financial Aid office at the Oshtemo campus between 4:30-6:30 tonight or any Tuesday night in February. [ February 5,12,19, 26 ]

Attention Class of 2021! There will be an informational meeting on MACHO VOLLEYBALL, the WINTERFEST DANCE, and WINTERFEST COURT. Please attend this meeting after school in room 241 this afternoon (2/5) from 2:30 to 3 in room 241. Please provide your own transportation home.

Senior sign up for Macho Volleyball starts now. If you are a senior please come to room 355 and sign up. It is pay-to-play and the cost is $20. We need coaches and players for the class of 2019 team.

Attention all students: Macho Volleyball practices start this week. Forms to participate will be outside of room 353, 317, 355, and 241. Practices will be held in our main gym tomorrow (2/6) and Friday (2/8). Freshman & Juniors will practice from 4:30 - 6:25. Sophomores & Seniors will practice from 6:30p - 8:30.

Please congratulate our band and orchestra musicians who attended the District Solo & Ensemble Festival this past Saturday (2/2), and performed with perseverance and dedication after having more than a week of snow days. Each of these students earned Division 1 ratings for single or multiple events: Dylan Ramber-Jach, Elena Weiss, Ben Vanderberg, Rand Faber, Haley Palmquist, Justin Poole, Miles Lekan and Jonathan Andrews.

FCCLA members planning to attend the state conference in March, please see Ms. Boulding during your lunch today. FCCLA's next meeting will be next Tuesday, February 12th.

ATHLETICS

The Lady Giant Competitive Cheer team did an outstanding job last evening in their final conference meet at Portage Northern. The Lady Giants finished third in the entire conference with their highest scores last night. Their next competition is Monday (2/11) at Gull Lake. Thank you ladies for a job well done!!

The men's swim and diving team competed in Allegan this weekend and the Freshman squad of: Andrew Taylor, Cohen Seaman, Calvin Willson, Nick Gleaton, Edward LaPointe, Ernest Hawkes and Nick Oostema placed first. The Team placed 4th overall at the meet. We host Portage Northern tonight (2/5) which is also Senior Night. Meet starts at 6pm.

The men's swim and diving team also defeated Coldwater on Jan 23rd. Outstanding performances were turned in by: Josh Walker, Daniel Crum, Nick Oostema and Jonathan Andrews.

The basketball games against Norrix will be played HERE in our own gym this Saturday (2/9). JV Lady Giants at 4:15, Varsity women at 5:45, Varsity men at 7:00. Doors open at 3:15, tickets go on sale in the gym at 3:15 on Saturday.

Hey Hockey Fans, come cheer on your K-Central KU Hockey players at Wings West in a league face-off against Mattawan tomorrow night (2/6). The first puck drop is at 5:15. Cost at the gate is $5.00 unless you have purchased a Hockey season pass.

Winter athletes, the athletic office ran grades yesterday. If your coach has contacted you about filling out a blue sheet, be sure you have that completed and turned in by 3:30 this afternoon (2/5).

Tutoring announcement: We will not have tutoring tomorrow (2/6) or Thursday (2/7) because we will have Parent/Teacher conferences tomorrow from 4-7 and Thursday from 5-8.
